Who to Call in a Commercial Plumbing Emergency

Found yourself in a plumbing pickle at your commercial business?

Find out what to do and who you gonna call!

So you have a commercial plumbing emergency

Whether it’s a blocked toilet at your restaurant, leaking pipes in a supermarket or no hot water at the hairdressing salon, plumbing emergencies in a commercial setting can wreak havoc for the property owner, business owner and the customers. You want your plumbing back to business as usual, and minimal down time because let’s face it, time equals money and we can’t afford to not be trading.

Any commercial plumbing problems should be tended to ASAP to avoid interfering with your business operations, and potentially damaging the commercial site too.

Who to call?

A lot of people don’t realise that many domestic plumbers can sort out commercial plumbing problems, too. You’ll want to make sure they can get to you quickly, so opt for plumbers that specialise in emergency plumbing (ahem, that’s us!).

What to do?

If your emergency commercial plumber can’t get to you pronto, there are a few steps you can take (depending on the plumbing emergency) to help secure or isolate the plumbing problem, and to prepare for when the plumber arrives.

Malfunctioning commercial hot water unit

Check for leaks! If your commercial hot water unit isn’t serving up the heat you need for the restaurant kitchen sinks or salon foot baths (or whatever else it may be your business needs hot water for!), it’s a good idea to check for leaks within the system. Inspect the area around the base of the unit and if you notice any puddles, there’s a leak and you may have a ruptured tank. If you can’t locate a leak, your hot water unit may be experiencing power issues or was installed incorrectly in the first place – or it’s just too old and has carked it.

Blocked sink at the workplace

Grab a plunger! Sinks, particularly in commercial kitchens, are prone to clogging up from time to time. An inevitable build-up of grease, food peels and scraps and other solids are the main perpetrators to blocking a sink. To tie you over until the plumber arrives, you may perform a plunge, but remember this is merely a short-term fix! Blocked sinks at the workplace need professional drain cleaning equipment to effectively clear the drains and return them to functioning normally.

Burst pipes at the office

Turn off at the mains! Out of all plumbing emergencies you could possibly encounter, seeing water gushing out of a broken pipe in the office place is probably the most confronting for most of our clients. When many of our clients see uncontrollable water flowing everywhere, the panic blackout sets in and many people have no idea where to begin! Simply remain calm, trot over to the water mains and turn off the supply, have any employees evacuate the area, making sure to be extra careful around electrical appliances and power supplies. The next step is a no-brainer – call ye plumber!

Burst water pipe is a commercial emergency problem
